Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with dozens of business owners across industries, helping them turn conversations into conversions with the power of ManyChat automations.
And after seeing inside so many accounts, one thing became crystal clear: most people are leaving money on the table without even realizing it.
This week’s email was born out of patterns I kept seeing over and over again. Whether it’s a tiny automation error or a missing follow-up message, these common missteps are silently costing you leads, sales, and growth.
So today, let’s fix the leaks and get your automations back to doing what they do best: making your business money.
Mistake #1. Not testing your automation
This might feel self-explanatory but you would not believe the amount of people who don’t test their automation in Instagram/Facebook after they’ve created it. It is SO important to run yourself through it just to make sure everything is set up and firing the way you’d intended it to!
Mistake #2. Is vs. Contains
One of the main complaints I hear when talking about ManyChat is that… “ManyChat is SO spammy!”
This common mistake is likely the reason why so many people make that assumption. Have you ever had an automation fire in the middle of a conversation, like this?

This is because you’re likely overlooking this selection when you’re setting up your trigger:

Is vs. Contains determines the context in which the automation will be triggered.
Message contains means that the automation will trigger when someone DMs a message that contains that word. (Ex. “Hey! I am really struggling to grow on social media. What guides or resources do you offer that would be able to help me with that? Thanks!”)
Message is means that the automation will only trigger when someone DMs just that keyword. (Ex. “GROW”)
You will likely only want the automation to trigger when someone DMs just the trigger word, so be sure to confirm you’ve made the proper selection.
Mistake #3. Forgetting to tag your contacts
Just like it’s important to add tags to contacts on your email list, you want to think of tagging on ManyChat in a similar way, as a way to gather information about the user: who are they and what are they looking for. It doesn’t matter if you’re just getting started with ManyChat or have been using it for a bit, it’s important to gather these insights so that way they are available to you when you decide to use it further down the line.
Curious what kinds of tags to create? I go over that and more in this week’s video…
